A bitterly cold wind blows outside the big single-glazed window at Grosvenor Square. In the distance, the lights of the local fun fair ramble across the horizon from Phoenix Park to Templeogue.
My friends and I have managed to secure a small turkey, which we place over the coffee table across the open fire.
It is a modest Christmas this year. The small gifts only a token for transition. A passover from a problematic year to a year of hope.
Indeed, since I last wrote, I travelled around Ireland to the Dingle Peninsula and Strandhill half asleep in between night shifts and litigation.
I did not receive the overdue salaries, but I visited the Labour Court. I left my apartment for a studio, and I sulked at night overlooking Herbert Park. The autumn came and brought hope in the shape of a job opportunity in Dubai, yet the recruiters decided to stay silent as I spent nights scaring away junkies at a local arcade.
I visited the immigration office with the heart on my sleeve. I victoriously left the premises with a green light to stay.
I look through my yearly notes and smile at the naiveness of it, at the glare of hope.
‘So airline or not, hostel, designer studio, tourist agency or whatever, I am more than pleased of what has been developing through these months and big changes are expected for 2012.
Last year when I was buried in snow and struggling with salaries and money, I remember saying the same thing , this year it started happening and progress is more important than anything else in life.’
I open one of my gifts and I glance through a New York City travel guide, for in less than a month, I will cross the Atlantic and see my family for the first time in two years.
To my loyal readers, I want to thank you for yet another year of sharing adventures with me and for inspiring me into writing.

Gostei muito do blog.. tirou-me algumas duvidas que tinha sobr a QR.
Tenho 32 anos faço parte da DIrecção de um Hotel em Lisboa e.. quero ir para cabin crew!!
Apetece-me sair disto tudo! Dia 27 vou ao F&B manager Ad da Ethad e daqui a dias ao da QR.
Alem de ser casado.. achas que é possivel ter uma carreira e evoluir? ou é mesmo so para uns meses e sair…
Se nao for para CC ou F&B vou para UK.. Veremos!

Miguel , desculpe por ter demorado tanto em te responder.
1. Idade nao e nenhum problema, especialmente se estiver aplicando para F&B na Etihad.
2. Qatar eu tinha um 'batchmate' de 35 anos, enquanto vc tiver um aspecto jovem e 'well-groomed' nao tera nenhum problema.
Na Etihad eu sei que tem opcoes de crescer dentro da empresa, ate mesmo na area administrativa. Na Qatar e muito mais dificil e na verdade eu duvido q vc queira passar todos seus dias em Doha.
Voce ja tentou entrar na BA ou Virgin Atlantic?
